The PALS Sensory Trail is an innovative trail designed to enhance sensory awareness and engagement for individuals on the autism spectrum and those with other developmental disabilities. This half-mile interactive experience features 10 stations that stimulate the five senses, whether participants are on horseback or on foot. Each station is thoughtfully designed to offer a range of sensory experiences—tactile, auditory, visual, and olfactory. Participants are immersed in an environment that fosters sensory development and connection, from guiding a horse across a textured trail bridge to exploring horse-friendly scents at the Sensational Station. The trail provides a calming retreat into nature while offering a unique experience that extends beyond traditional approaches.

The Sensory Trail was made possible by the generosity of our incredible supporters who have been with us from the start. The trail’s development has been completed in two phases, with Phase One marking a significant milestone in bringing this vision to life and Phase Two finalizing sponsorships for each sensory station. These stations include a steering station with traffic signs, a basketball station for coordination and counting, and a noodle curtain for tactile and visual stimulation—all thoughtfully designed to enhance the sensory experience. Even with both phases completed, we are constantly looking for new ways to improve and enrich the trail for our participants.

The PALS Sensory Trail offers not only an innovative way to engage the senses but also provides participants with a sense of accomplishment that helps boost their confidence. The inclusion of horses adds another dimension by fostering trust, empathy, and emotional bonding between the participant and the horse. Those who navigate the trail improve their memory, coordination, and ability to follow instructions, all while enjoying the calming natural surroundings.

It embodies hope and progress, offering a brighter and more inclusive future for everyone involved.
